Steering & suspension

After a hard pothole hit in Pittsburgh: what to record and what to have checked.

Document changes in vibration, steering and noise so the next inspection starts with useful information.

Vehicle underbody and exhaust components

Compare before and after

After a hard impact, note what changed: a new vibration, steering-wheel position, pulling, clunking or a visible tire or wheel concern. Record the approximate speed and whether the symptom occurs while braking, turning or driving straight.

An impact does not identify the failed component. A wheel, tire, alignment or suspension issue can require different equipment and a different repair plan. Avoid ordering a strut or wheel bearing from the sound alone.

Choose safety before diagnosis

If handling changes significantly, a tire appears damaged or the vehicle is unsafe to control, stop in a safe location and arrange appropriate assistance. Do not make repeated test drives to reproduce a severe symptom.

Tire and alignment work should be arranged with an appropriate provider. Mokanex can review steering and suspension concerns for suitable mechanical diagnosis or repair; it does not offer tire services.

Make the repair request useful

Send the vehicle identification and a description of the event and symptoms. Photos taken from a safe position can help describe visible damage, but do not crawl under a roadside vehicle or attempt checks in traffic.

Provide an accessible work location in the Pittsburgh area and tell us if the vehicle cannot be moved. Request an explanation of what was inspected, which parts were confirmed faulty and what still needs a tire shop, alignment facility or additional equipment. Keep the findings with the maintenance records.
